Breakfast Recognizes 2007
Faculty In The Workplace Participants

Each year, Partners In Education recruits Toledo Public School teachers and Toledo area businesses to participate in Faculty In The Workplace. The program allows teachers to stay in touch with the latest trends and practices in business, knowledge that returns to the classroom during the school year. This year's Faculty In The Workplace visits occurred during the week of June 11.

Kelly Williams, Byrnedale Junior High, and Jim Nowak, Buckeye CableSystemAt a June 21 recognition breakfast at Toledo Hospital, program participants shared highlights of their weeklong experiences.

Libbey High School teacher Angela Smith described her experience visiting The Andersons as an eye opener, allowing her to see far beyond her understanding of the company as a retail store operator. Angela was awed by the complex rail car operation run by The Andersons, featuring a paint shop and sophisticated systems for tracking use of tracks owned by a variety of transportation companies.

Start High teacher Kelli Williams spent the week with Buckeye CableSystem's Creative Producer Jim Nowak. Kelly was surprised by the amount of work involved with preparing for and producing a 30 second television commercial. She even managed to appear in a commercial produced during her week at the company.

Julia Faulkner, Partners In Education, and Sharon Ravin, Start High SchoolSharon Ravin, Special Education teacher at Start High School, was overwhelmed by her week with the Toledo Police Division. The week included a day riding in a patrol car with an officer as well as time in the juvenile correction center. Sharon shared that as strict as she is with her students, there's no question the young people housed at the correction center have far more structure and regulation to contend with. Sharon's week also included time with a 911 dispatcher and the police division's records department.

Teacher Lynn McAbier spent her week with the Toledo Mudhens, awed by the behind the scenes crew, which handles scoreboard updates, advertising signs, in-game music, and announcements. Her evening with Muddy the Mudhen was a highlight - both for her and the kids seeking Muddy's autograph.
